la bella città

I spent a week back in Rome, soaking up the sun, sights and city.  Here are some of the echoes of that visit, which remind me of the two years I spent there in '02-04

> somebody trying to cut in line in front of me at the coffee bar
> friends, old and new
> the train to the airport was cancelled at the last minute
> dozens of flavours of delicious gelato... where to start?
> having to dance around tourists standing agape at all the amazing sights
> wandering through random small streets and finding something interesting by chance
> cacio e pepe, melanzane alla parmigiana, supplì, tramezzini
> going into churches I hadn't been in before and finding amazing art or music
> running into people I haven't seen for years and lost contact with
> espresso, cappuccino, caffè latte, ristretto, macchiato - come vuoi il tuo caffè?
> walking kilometer after kilometer and not getting bored
> the Pantheon at night; film crew sitting next to our table in between filming
> high heels on cobblestone
> visiting my favourite sandwich place, pizza place
> running for the bus / waiting 30+ minutes for the bus to come
> long chats with random strangers in shops / bus stops
